Felix Naef

Who they are

Computational systems-biology PI at EPFL, known for quantitative modeling of circadian rhythms and the cell cycle — periodic biological clocks studied in real (physical) time. Co-corresponding author of velocycle-2024 / VeloCycle with GioeleLaManno; his expertise in statistical inference on periodic processes underlies VeloCycle’s treatment of the cell cycle as a 1D periodic manifold with phase-dependent angular speed.

Why they matter to this wiki

VeloCycle’s reach into metric, experimentally validated cell-cycle time is partly a systems- biology-of-clocks contribution: framing velocity inference around a known-period process and anchoring the rate scale with measured half-lives is exactly the move a circadian/cell-cycle modeler brings. He represents the periodic-clock route to physical-time-grounding — complementary to the metabolic-labeling route (dynamo).
